My shiny new e-book reader to keep and cherish
May. 29th, 2008 @ 09:01 pm
After a whole year of longing (and drooling on pics and specs) I've finally managed to get this little one. Yesterday night I was so excited I've barely had any sleep. It's everything I dreamed about and more. Using it just one day and I'm already head over heels in love. I was very busy today but still managed to read about one-third of Rakina's SG fic (which is brilliant!) using time normally useless. I really value friendship and other human relationships but sometimes simply objects can make you happy. (No, not only that kind of objects :D) I keep touching it fondly and I constantly have that silly lovestruck grin on my face. From now I will never part with it. No more endless printing, squeeee!|
Have a look:
WOW, that is one cool gadget. I love the ads I see for this in the subway:
"Sexier that a Librarian (Your Librarian may vary)."
so it's easy to load fanfic onto it? word files? pdfs?
It's easy to transfer the fics. Rtf is better than pdf, it can convert word to rtf but I decided to use a memory card (SD card) and saved the fanfics in rtf format already for that. (Using Word You can choose rtf instead of doc, it's simple) This clever one can recognize the card as his own storage and don't need any further transferring. Brilliant, really :D *happy*
damn that would save me a LOT of trees!
me too. I have several thousand pages of printed fanfics... *guilty*
Oh, you're a tempting minx. I keep telling myself I'm on a budget, but I have to admit that it looks like fun! I'd love to be able to read fanfic in the park. Was it outrageously expensive?
It was 330 USD 'cause I had to ask a friend. She was reluctant to use e-bay (where you can buy it for 270 USD or some without bidding) so she ordered it from circuit city. (Still it was a good deal for me as she brought it to my place and saved shipping cost for me.)
I hesitated a lot but now I'm really glad I decided to purchase it.
Oh, I am soooooo jealous! I tried to get one a while back but nobody seemed to have even heard of them in the backwater that is the UK...
*wonders if that's changed now*
It looks absolutely fantastic, anyway - lucky you! :D
Same here in Hungary... :( I had to ask a friend to buy it for me in the States. Fortunately she came back home for a holiday.
I feel lucky, indeed :D
I recently purchased the Amazon Kindle [go to amazon.com and read the blurb on the homepage] and can totally related to your love affair. I don't know about the Sony but the Kindle will hold 200 books without adding a memory card [which it will]. You can also send yourself word files. I sent myself the HP books and they read fine. It uses cell phone technology so you don't have to rely on wi-fi to get your books and just knowing I'm connected to Amazon 24/7 thrills me. The books are cheaper and it saves trees.Right now AMazon has about 120000 books available for it. It even has a web browser for email and such.
I can't tell you how much I love this thing. Enjoy your toy, I LOVE mine.
I considered Kindle as well. Their storing and reading functions are pretty same. The Sony was a little bit cheaper for me but just because I had my friend to bring it to my place (i.e. free shipping which is normally offered by Amazon but not by Sony distributors). I'll read mainly fanfics with it so I won't miss the connection to Amazon :)
I hope this device will be more popular soon and we could get cheaper books, cheaper readers, and save more trees. :D Thanks for your comment.
